Ojishi leafs out with a heavily crinkled leaf and twisted chartreuse green leaf. As this Japanese maple matures, it turns a rich green by late spring. Found in Japanese literature in the 1700 s, Ojishi is the male lion counterpart to famous Shishigashira which is known as the female lion. Older growth is still twisted but flatten outs much more than the new growth which is a key distinguishing feature from Shishigashira .

Ojishi turns to bright yellows before becoming infused with orange. This Japanese maple is a true dwarf that reaches 6 ft in height in 15 years. In the shade, Ojishi maybe more open like in the main picture. In full sun, Ojishi will be extremely dense. This Japanese maple is ideal for small spots in the landscape, bonsai, or growing in containers.
